I'm often reminded by my family of a phrase that I used to say when watching old movies (my father loves the classics): "All these people are no longer alive." It may seem a macabre and somewhat disturbing comment if you think it came from a little girl. But I think there was nothing morbid about it: I was fascinated by the possibility offered by technology to see images of events that happened a long time ago, to see living people who are nomore. I have a degree in Art History and have always seen the creations as reflections of a time, and as the spirit of some individual. Apart from the aesthetical side of it all, I have always been seduced by the scenes that can never be repeated (in painting, photography, film ...). I see them as small time machines, fleeting reflections of a moment. On rare occasions, when I am confronted with some object that really moves me, I feel like a privileged spectator, a fortuitous voyeur that has been allowed to have a glimpse of the past.

That is why I'm fascinated by bold photographers: they allow us to collect a frozen second of what it all was. And here we stand, years after, left to
play with how to build a house starting from the tiles. The possibilities are endless.
